Great sim, usability much improved in latest
Ive had this space sim for quite a while and have been impressed from the start with the realistic physics, the detail, the variety of spacecraft, and the beauty of the graphics. It reminds me of Orbiter, the great space sim for Windows, for which I have been a huge fan and a tutorial creator (Go Play In Space) since 2005. This app provides much of the functionality of Orbiter on an iPad, including the space shuttle as well as spacecraft that are available only as addons in Orbiter (Apollo, X-15, some 2001 movie ships, now Gemini, and more). It uses a similar MFD model for instruments, controls, and data displays. There are even 3D virtual cockpits.
All good, except for some usability and stability issues on earlier versions. These seem to have been very well addressed in v1.0.7. It seems that tutorials have also been improved in the latest, and the inclusion of Gemini is a real treat. Gemini missions were favorites of mine as a kid, especially the dual Gemini 6 & 7 mission which is simulated here. And the Apollo program is treated even better here. Congrats to the developers!
This is NOT a space shooter, but if you are a fan of space flight, space history, physics, or especially space sims like Kerbal and Orbiter, you should buy this app now. I have only tried it on iPad Air 2 and it runs smoothly with decent size displays. Im not sure how well it would work on a smaller iPhone screen but its not that expensive, so try it. Cheaper than most aerospace books or even magazines and much more interactive, fun, and educational.
P.S. Check the October 31, 2016 edition of The Space Review online for an article on Orbiter 2016, KSP, and this sim (earlier version).
